Sophomores -- 19's. During the first month of the school year (1916-17) the Sophomores organized themselves as the Second Year Class of the Murdock Academy. Grant Smith was elected President, Nettie Messenger, Vice President, and Golda Baldwin, Secretary and Treasurer. There are thirty stalwart members in the class. They all work under the motto, "Unity." Many great endeavors have been made to make the class a noted one, and these have succeeded to a large extent. The Soph's displayed their colors on "Clean-up Day." Every boy and girl did his or her best to make the school grounds more attractive. The plans of this class for "Founder's Day" did not meet the success expected, but nevertheless they made a sufficient showing. The series of basketball games played by the various classes, brought the Soph's near to the surface. They are striving hard to gain a stronger foothold. Our class standing has averaged higher than any other of the classes of its size. To satisfactorily enumerate the many details of the various accomplishments of this class would extend beyond our alloted space.
