Emery History Book says, "In 1908, Doctor Thomas Clark Hill came here seeking a permanent home and practice. He first lived at the Brasher Hotel. In 1911 he married Effie Armstrong, a Castle Dale school teacher. In 1912 he established a drug and confectionary store in the James McKee building on main Street with living quarters in the back. He later sold it, and they moved into their new home on Main Street in June 1922. When he went into the armed services in 1916-1918 during World War I, Dr. Bash practiced here during his absence. Then in 1926 he took his family to Arizona for his wife's health. During this time Dr. Hal Sherman cared for his practice. In 1928 Mrs. Hill died, leaving their daughter Helen, a child of three years. Dr. Hill's first calls to the sick were made by horseback. He soon purchased a horse and buggy and finally became owner of one of the first automobiles in the county. Even though roads were extremely poor, he traveled in stormy weather or fair through the county from Desert Lake to Emery. He was County Physician from 1918 to 1924 and from 1933 to 1938. He married Stella S. Leonard in 1944, a talented and influential teacher in the Huntington schools. On Dec. 30, 1947, Dr. Hill died.
