Addie Wakefield Richards, in her history, said that Dr. and Mrs. Hill were her second parents. She said that anytime they went anywhere, they would come and see if Addie could go with them to be company for Mrs. Hill--she was crippled. "They more or less adopted me. I was with them as much as I was with my mother. I remember he was a secretive man; he didn't want everyone to know his business. But mother and dad were his good friends." Addie is seen here holding Dr. Hill's baby Helen on a goat that is tied up in the yard. Mrs. Hill died when Helen was three years old.
