USGS photographer C. T. Lupton took this photograph in 1912 of the stage coach which traveled from the town of Price (Utah) to the town of Emery (Utah). Usually the driver could leave Price in the morning and arrive in Emery in the evening if the road conditions were good, and make the return trip the next day. Other accounts say that the stage coach spent the night in Castle Dale, went on to Emery the next day and back to Castle Dale, spending the night again, and on to Price the third day. Road conditions could slow travel down because of the sticky clay soil.
