Royal Swasey fought in World War II. The Nazi flag is likely a souvenir from that war. Royal began collecting old items to preserve the old ways of life. He also had a hobby of making animals and other folk art sculptures out of wood, antlers, rocks and scraps of metal. He opened a little museum in what had been his Milk Barn and many school classes toured his museum and listened to him tell about the way life used to be. The museum was open in the 1960s and 70's. Photo is probably about 1970.
