This photograph is from a newspaper article about the Swaseys. "In the early years of Emery County, an annual reunion was held amoung county settlers and friends and relatives from back in Sanpete County. They would meet at Joe's Valley. This photograph from the 1880s includes Joe Swasey, the tall man near the center, behind the stove pipe. Many say Joe's Valley was named after Swasey. Other's disagree. It is generally known now that it was named after an Indian named Joe. The photos says 1889, but it looks like Joe is older than that in the photo, and it might be just a family gathering.
