Joe Swasey continued to breed wild horses with good stock. He went to Polluse Valley, Idaho and brought back many Appoloosa horses. Monte Swasey said of his grandfather, Joe and his father, Royal, "They had every color and shape imaginable. They had work horses, buggy horses, riding horses, and race horses. They kept the work horses and riding horses on different parts of the Swell. This photograph was taken at the last wild horse roundup that Joe Swasey participated in. There are still a few wild horses on the Swell, but the large horse herds are gone. The gathering of wild horses is no longer the common part of life that it was in the early days of the county.
