Orlon Mortensen joined the CCCs when he was 18 years old and was assigned to Camp F-11 Company 959 in Ferron. They worked for the Forest Service on Ferron Mountain and in Ferron Canyon. Young men who joined the CCCs were given a roof over their heads, a bed to sleep on, clothing to wear, and plenty of food to eat. This photo shows the sleeping quarters. The average age of the young men was 18.5 years old, so they were known as the CCC Boys. Local men were hired to be the cooks, barbers, supervisors, etc. The young men worked under their direction. Orlon Mortensen did not sleep in these quarters because he helped the barber in his shop and had a bed there.
