Orlon Mortensen joined the CCCs when he was 18 years old and was assigned to Camp F-11 Company 959 in Ferron. They worked for the Forest Service on Ferron Mountain and in Ferron Canyon. Young men who joined the CCCs were given a roof over their heads, a bed to sleep on, clothing to wear, and plenty of food to eat. This photo shows the dining area of this base camp with the cooks, ready for the anniversary dinner of Camp F-11. The average age of the young men was 18.5 years old, so they were known as the CCC Boys. Local men were hired to be the cooks, barbers, supervisors, etc., and the boys all worked under them.
