A s President of the Bank of Southern Utah for more than 15 y e a r s , and being involved in c h u r c h and secular affairs, Lehi W . Jones was identified actively with e v e r y community and county effort of major significance for 75 years. He became a bank president in the 'depression' a t t h e age of 78, and was widely known a s a cattleman. businessman, and philanthropist in Southern Utah. He died November 28. 1947 in Cedar City. Sept. 30, 1886.. .City Council convened in the Social Hall at 8 p.m. Present: Mayor Lehi W. Jones and Councilors--E. Schoppman, George P e r r y , 0 . Fretwell, and James Simkins. The Committee on Finance reported having examined t h e Auditor and Recorder and the T r e a s u r e r ' s books and found them in good condition, b u t they found a great deal of property not available for p r e s e n t u s e . Oct. 16. 1886.. . T h e Committee on Cemetery presented plans for extending t h e p r e s e n t g r a v e y a r d . After some discussion, Councilman Thorley motioned t h a t t h e proposed new cemetery, including the present o n e , shall contain 10 a c r e s . Carried. Dec. 22, 1886.. .City Council met in the new meeting house a t 6 f p.m. A petition was presented by David Harris for t h e purpose of obtaining a license to use a billiard table. The petition was tabled. The resignation of Edwin C. Cox a s Auditor and Recorder was accepted. John P a r r y made a n offer to haul the rock for t h e cemetery for $75 for 300 perches. Council accepted t h e offer that John P a r r y haul 300 perch of rock from the q u a r r y of Joseph Perkins t o t h e cemetery for the sum of $75 in the Cedar City Stock Herd, and also pay him t h e $5 remaining in said h e r d to expend on the building of a road to said q u a r r y . Carried. Councilman Fretwell made a motion that Joseph Perkins and Bros. be paid for an additional 100 perch of rock for t h e cemetery on condition that they agree to furnish the rock. Carried.
