April 23, 1885.. . T h e Mayor called the attention of the Council to brick being b u r n e d near dwelling houses in t h i s City, a s injurious to health and endangering p r o p e r t y . Matter r e f e r r e d to Judiciary Committee. The Mayor also called t h e attention of t h e Council to diseased animals running at l a r g e , also other animals running the s t r e e t s and creating filth, etc. Motion by Councilman Corry t h a t the Judiciary Committee d r a f t an ordinance prohibiting animals running at large. Carried. May 2 0 . 1 8 8 5 . . . A petition from Anson Root and Co., per Anson Root with bond accompanying, was presented asking for a license a s retail liquor dealers for the quarter commencing May 20, 1885, and ending August 20. 1885. Motion by Councilman Leigh that t h e Recorder issue license u n d e r t h e provisions of the ordinance relating thereto. A petition from Anson Root and Cn., p e r Anson Carried. Root, was presented asking for a license to keep a billiard o r pool table for the q u a r t e r . Carried. July 28. 1885.. .Mr. Bryant, in behalf of Anson Root and Co., complained of parties selling liquors within t h e corporate limits of this City without license, and asked that s t e p s be taken to protect their business. Motion by Councilman Heyborne that the Mayor procure the services of a detective to thoroughly investigate t h e matter a n d , if possible, bring t h e guilty parties to justice. Carried. Aug. 4 , 1885.. .The Mayor presented an invitation to attend Memorial Services to be held at Salt Lake City, August 8 . 1885, in honor of General Grant. On motion, the Recorder was instructed to answer the invitation with our t h a n k s , stating t h e circumstances preventing o u r attendance on that occasion. Oct. 30, 1885.. .Anson Root and Co. petitioned for a liquor license and billiard license for t h e ensuing q u a r t e r commencing Oct. 30. Motion made that said petitions be not granted. Carried. Nov. 16. 1885.. . T h e Mayor reported that, upon recommendation of members of the City Council, he had purchased 200 t r e e s from the Geneva N u r s e r y , to be delivered t h e f i r s t of December. Motion by Councilman Heyborne t h a t we sustain t h e Mayor's action and t h a t the Recorder post notice calling for bids for 200 good cedar p o s t s , 7 feet long and not less than 4 inches in diameter at t h e top, for fencing t h e Public Square. Posts to be delivered by December 1. 1885. Bids t o be handed in by Saturday. Nov. 2 1 . Carried. (City Park-ZOO North and Main)
