Fretwell in relation to i t s payment. The attention of the council was called to a notice of Mary Ann Stewart's declaring her intention to make application before t h e Water Commissioners of Iron County for claim of 213 of Coal Creek for milling purposes. Feb. 11, 1882.. .Mayor called attention of t h e Council to Mary Ann Stewart's claim in connection with the purchase of the Corporation from L . R . Chaffin of his i n t e r e s t of mill privileges on Coal Creek situated on what is known a s Chaffin's Mill. Mayor appointed a committee to possibly purchase Mary Ann Stewart's 113 interest and t h a t they offer her $ 2 5 for same. Councilors Webster and Nelson were appointed. Mayor called attention t o t h e necessity of obtaining water certificates for all city lots. On motion of Councilor Webster, the Mayor was to make application before the Water Commissioners of Iron County f o r water power and mill privileges, in connection with M . A . Stewart, for 518 of the waters of Coal Creek to be applied on the mill site purchased from L . R . Chaffin. April 29, 1882.. .Committee, relative to the purchase of M . A. Stewart's m i l l privileges right of Chaffin a n d Stewart's grist mill, reported not being able to negotiate on favorable terms, the amount asked for said claim being more than t h e committee considered t h e claim worth. May 17, 1882.. .John Chatterley a n d o t h e r s submitted a written petition for a city lot to e r e c t a building for public worship. Mayor was authorized to issue a deed of Lot 2, Block 37 to the Cedar City Ecclesiastical Ward for t h e original cost, to be paid 10 p e r cent p e r annum until date paid. (corner of Main a n d Center--10 North Main) Oct. 2 1 , 1882.. .Petition of Honorable George Q . Cannon a n d Thomas Taylor of Salt Lake City was read stating t h a t i t is their intention to establish iron works somewhere in Iron County, Utah T e r r i t o r y , and to commence the erection of t h e same forthwith--that if said works should be built in Cedar City, i t will be a certain inducement to construction of one o r more railroads t o your city, increasing value of property a n d bringing in a great influx of population. Being informed t h a t Cedar City owns some suitable ground on the north side of the creek, we shall require about ten a c r e s of land with right-of-way f o r water. If in your wisdom you can offer any inducements to establish said iron works in your c i t y , please let us know what t h e said inducements a r e .
