The Council i n s t r u c t e d the Committee on Public Grounds a n d City Property to purchase properties immediately from Louis R . Chaffin, George Hunter, and Thomas Thorley for use of t h e City in their e n t r i e s adjacent to Cedar City. Cemetery Sexton, Lapworth, recommended t h a t a cedar post be s e t a t one corner of each cemetery lot branded with the f r e s h b r a n d of t h e parties owning t h e lot. Feb. 28, 1881.. .John R. Chaffin petitioned t h e Council in writing. He desires to place shade t r e e s around his city lots. In so doing, t h e t r e e s will require protection from the stock t h a t a r e constantly running at l a r g e in t h e s t r e e t s and p r a y s t h a t he may have the liberty t o enclose so much land a s will s e c u r e t h e shade t r e e s from t h e ravages of stock for a term of y e a r s sufficient that t h e t r e e s will sustain themselves. March 4 , 1881.. .Petition of George P e r r y and 87 o t h e r s (83% of t h e 105 voters in August 1880 election] was r e a d , praying the Council t o g r a n t two city lots in the north p a r t of the City for school p u r p o s e s .
