Council to negotiate in t h e i n t e r e s t of t h e County, claiming a part interest in t h e slaughterhouse corral being used a s the stray p e n , for which t h e County furnished some material eight or nine years ago. Referred t o investigating committee. (Later, the City purchased all of t h e County's i n t e r e s t a n d rights for $12.50) May 26, 1879.. .Meeting called to take s t e p s to control t h e water in Cedar City. Andrus Jenson, City Watermaster, was to be instructed t o regulate t h e water in t h e City ditches s o that the City lots may draw equally, a n d appoint a deputy watermaster over each block, o r a s many a s necessary to control the water, a n d exercise his judgment a s to the length of time each lot shall draw water. Mayor i n s t r u c t e d to purchase a flag for t h e use of the City. June 2 3 . 1879.. .Committee recommended purchasing p r o p e r t y from Homer Duncan a s p e r his former proposal a n d deeding the same to the Walker Company a t the same price a n d g r a n t to said company water to propel machinery. Also, t h a t t h e City move t h e present building and machinery from where i t now s t a n d s to said land. Land was deeded to the Walker Company for the sum of $4 for each 96 r o d s . Sept. 23, 1879.. .Mayor presented a communication from David James to Francis Webster in relation to the price of iron piping and asked t h e Council to take into consideration t h e propriety of bringing the water from t h e 'Cold Spring' in pipes for the benefit of the citizens of Cedar City. It was recommended t h a t the Mayor p r e s e n t t h e above a t a mass meeting of t h e citizens. Sept. 25, 1879.. .Mayor was i n s t r u c t e d t o wait upon John M . Macfarlane. Attorney-at-Law, and ascertain what h e will prosecute parties refusing to p a y City license a n d taxes a n d otherwise not conforming to the requirements of the ordinances of Cedar City. Recorder Fischer presented his resignation a n d bill for services rendered t h e City, a s "I am about to move away from Cedar City. " Oct. 20. 1879.. .Councilor J e n s Nielsen p r e s e n t e d a bill of $7.50 for services a s committeeman in City Council for a period of ten y e a r s . Nov. 3. 1879 ... City Marshal asked if h e should continue his labors in looking to t h e safety of camp f i r e s made b y travelers in the City a n d close vicinity. On motion of Councilman P r y o r , t h e Marshal was i n s t r u c t e d to continue his labors and t h a t he be empowered t o extinguish fires made in the City t h a t may b e , in his judgment, dangerous.
