Nov. 11, 1875 . . . R . R. Birkbeck and C. J . Arthur each donated land, 20 rods long a n d 2 rods wide, for s t r e e t s for the consideration of 20 rods of good pole fence for West Street. The Council paid Joseph H . Smith $30 per a c r e for his land for s t r e e t s , a s well a s furnishing t h e fence. Dec. 2 , 1875.. . I t was recommended that the T r e a s u r e r be empowered to hire 30 bushels of wheat and pay one peck on t h e bushel for interest for one y e a r , said wheat t o defray the Corporation indebtedness to Robert Smith for City s t r e e t s purchased from him. Dec. 9 , 1875.. . J . L . Davis presented t h e necessity of having bridges over the ditches on Locust S t r e e t . Dec. 25, 1875 . . .It was motioned t h a t the Marshal b e instructed t o keep one policeman on d u t y every Sabbath, and that h e prohibit ball playing a n d all k m d s of games during the day. Jan. 5 , 1876.. . I t was motioned t h a t 50 c e n t s be allowed George Hunter on overcharge of taxes last year. I t was motioned t h a t t h e slaughterhouse b e improved b y putting in a flag ( s t o n e ) floor, flags to be not less t h a n 4 Inches t h i c k , raise the hoisting wheel, a n d p u t on a good roof. March 26, 1876.. .George Wood p r e s e n t e d t h a t he was dissatisfied with t h e license fee for selling liquors, wines. e t c . , considering it too much, and t h a t he would p r e f e r o t h e r s selling i t to himself u n d e r the circumstances, and what liquor, wine, e t c . , h e had on hand h e would dispose of at cost and carriage. The Council granted him an o r d e r free to sell t h e few gallons of liquor he had on hand in case of sickness, provided h e took out the wine license in conformity with t h e ordinance. June 3 , 1876... Taxes were cancelled for Thomas Gower, Sam -Leigh, John P a r r y J r . , David Bullock, John Duncan, and Mrs. M . Ellecar. John Harris, David Haight, and H . Bauer asked the privilege of taking a water ditch in front of their residences for culinary p u r p o s e s .
