March 2 1 , 1874.. . N . W . Pryor was appointed City Marshal, John C. Duncan was appointed T r e a s u r e r , a n d George P e r r y was appointed Supervisor of S t r e e t s and Water Ditches of Cedar City. March 23, 1874 . . . An ordinance was drawn up for assessing a n d collecting t a x e s . April 2 5 . 1874.. . T h e Watermaster was paid $15 for services rendered from December 18. 1873 to April 14, 1874. J u n e 13. 1874.. . T h e t a x assessments were r e a d . The Auditor was i n s t r u c t e d to make out the t a x list a n d r e t u r n i t to t h e Assessor to collect a t the r a t e of one-half of one percent. (.0051 July 31, 1874.. . T h e City paid t h e bills on l a b o r , etc. for the City Slaughterhouse. The building was still in an unfinished condition. August 2 9 , 1874.. .A committee was appointed to complete the slaughterhouse. Oct. 31, 1874.. . T h e Tax Assessor was i n s t r u c t e d to take grain in payment for all d e b t s due t h e City a t two c e n t s p e r pound. Nov. 2 . 1874.. .City Council created the office of Auditor a n d Public Accounts for Cedar City and defined t h e duties for t h i s position. Dec. 5 , 1874.. . T h e City remitted the taxes of Thomas Gower due to sickness. The Council decided t h a t anv comoanv o r association putting animals into the City Corrai shall' pa$ five c e n t s p e r head f o r u s e of same f o r 1 2 h o u r s , a n d 50 c e n t s for e v e r y animal slaughtered in t h e slaughterhouse. Dec. 18, 1874.. . T h e Supervisor of Public Works was i n s t r u c t e d to look a f t e r the crossings t h a t a r e liable to flood o v e r , especially t h e crossings on Main S t r e e t . Complaints were recorded from John Urie a n d J e n s Nielson t h a t t h e drainings from cattle corrals, hog p e n s , e t c . a r e making some of t h e City ditches unfit f o r u s e . The Cedar Co-op Stock Association was given use of t h e City Slaughterhouse a n d Corral f o r $75 p e r y e a r . They were ordered to keep t h i n g s in repair and be allowed for all improvements made. Dec. 26, 1874.. . T h e labor on t h e s t r e e t s , c r o s s i n g s , e t c . was allowed a t t h e r a t e of $1.50 p e r day a n d $1 p e r day for a team of h o r s e s .
