They intend to demolish the Hotel a n d construct a first-class motel a n d r e s t a u r a n t on t h e p r o p e r t y . Because of t h e Cedar Development lease, the City is in no position to negotiate with t h e P o r t e r s . City to give Cedar Development Corporation a written notice of i t s default by reason of its failure to p a y rentals. The City Manager met with Mr. Maxwell, State F.A.A. Director, who said the p r e s e n t runway would need another 7:" of mulch, a n d t h a t t h e runway would need to be lengthened t o 9,100 feet by 1971 to accommodate DC-9 Airplanes. Bill F a r r , an employee of the Baseball Recreation Program, left his own lawn mower a t t h e Ball P a r k a n d i t was stolen. Ken Benson requested the City replace t h e mower. The City h a s no obligation for loss. Denied. July 18. 1968.. .Wilford Day is interested in re-activating t h e taxi service in Cedar City. A public hearing on taxi service will be held August 1. (No one except Mr. Day appeared a t the hearing. Approved. 1 Aug. 1, 1968.. . T h e question of City employees living outside the City limits was discussed. Motion was made by Councilman Jones t h a t the City adopt t h e policy t h a t City employees live within City limits, a n d a n y exceptions must be approved b y t h e City Council. Unanimous. Motion b y Councilman Jones to purchase the Police t h e new Radar equipment. Carried. Mayor L. A . Whiten's name was to be e n t e r e d for t h e 'Tom McCoy Award' for outstanding and distinguished public service r e n d e r e d , to be given t o an elected municipal official. Aug. 15, 1968.. .Letter from t h e State Division of Health regarding the sewer disposal plant. I t s t a t e d . "In o r d e r to promote an early removal of t h e potential hazards described, i t is requested t h a t you submit to this office a schedule of action t a k e n . " Sept. 5 . 1968.. .Special Bond Election for t h e Storm Sewer. Cost--$105,000. In favor-587, a n d against--63. Result for Water Bond: Cost--$320,000 ... in favor--587, a n d against-59. S e p t . 19, 1968.. .Mayor a n d Water Board recommended t h a t water per q u a r t e r be increased from a minimum rate of $8 to $10. Carried. Oct. 3 , 1968.. .A group from East a n d North Elementary Parent Teacher Associations met r e g a r d i n g the lack of a Policeman for a crosswalk g u a r d a t the two schools. They felt g u a r d s a r e urgently needed, regardless of cost.
