Larson, Chairman of t h e Red Cross s t a t e s t h a t t h e Red Cross takes care of Veterans a n d t h e i r families, but cannot give aid to t r a n s i e n t s . He asked t h e City a n d County to take c a r e of those transients other than Veterans. Motion was made to send a l e t t e r to t h e El Rey Cafe telling t h e Manager t h e s t a n d of t h e Council, also public opinion, r e g a r d i n g the dinner-dance cafe a n d liquor; a n d inform him h e i s on probation for 90 d a y s . He must conform with the City ordinance o r he will lose his license. Vote unanimous. April 15, 1949.. .Resolution regarding t h e possible purchase of t h e facilities of t h e Southern Utah Power Company was p r e s e n t e d . Carried. April 27, 1949.. .Resolution to purchase Southern Utah Power Company. The Council authorized Mayor P a r r y to offer a sum, not to exceed $600,000, for the Power Company distribution system in the City, and t h e Steam Plant. This is subject to bonding approval. Councilman Milne then moved t h a t the expenses of t h e Mayor in his t r i p to Washington D . C. to handle t h e power matter be paid by t h e City. Carried. Melvin Thorley a n d Paul Cox met r e g a r d i n g their subdivision. They asked to change to a s t r e e t 66 feet wide instead of 90 feet wide, making the lots l a r g e r . Attorney Isom asked the p r o p e r t y owners to s e n d a written petition to t h e City Council asking for same. May 5, 1949 ...Only flat headstones a r e to be p u t in t h e Cemetery, due to the e x t r a time a n d expense to the City trimming g r a s s around t h e large stones. May 26. 1949.. .Special session. The Planning Commission a n d First East p r o p e r t y owners in attendance. The petition signed by t h e property owners regarding business building was read b y Attorney Isom. George Smeath explained t h a t you cannot zone for appearance s a k e , b u t can appeal to builders to p u t a good presentable f r o n t on buildings. In point of sanitation, animals should be ruled out of t h e areas close to t h e Business District. The zoning map was changed to make Coca-Cola Garage conform by moving their business line back about 150 feet from First East. Motion was made to p u t Janson Shop in 1-1 with Excelsior Plant west of Janson Shop a n d North to the Creek. Council accepted map with changes made.
