J u n e 7 , 1948.. .Mayor Gronway P a r r y presented t h e name of D r . L . Verl Broadbent to fill t h e unexpired term of Harold The vote was a s follows: Sargent for 2 year Councilman. Councilmen Roberts a n d Gardner voted y e s , and Councilmen Christensen and Milne voted no. Tabled. July 1 , 1948.. .Councilman Haldow Christensen made motion t h a t Myles Walker he appointed to fill t h e unexpired term of Harold S a r g e n t . Motion was seconded b y Councilman Milne. Voting unanimous. Aug. 5 , 1948.. .Mayor P a r r y discussed t h e Southern Utah Power a n d Development Company a n d their efforts to build a power plant f o r Southern Utah. A motion was made by Councilman Frank Milne t h a t t h e City donate 5100 to this power project. Oct. 7 , 1948.. .Plans for t h e Airport Municipal Building were shown to the City Council. A motion was made t h a t the City authorize Architect Robert Gardner to go ahead with t h e plans. Voting unanimous. Dec. 16, 1948.. .A motion was made by Councilman Gardner t h a t t h e City Council continue the practice of giving gifts of t u r k e y s a n d candy to t h e City Employees for Christmas. J a n . 20, 1949.. .D. Claude Urie p r e s e n t e d his case of overtime for the Street Department Employees. A motion was made b y Councilman Gardner t h a t Mr. Urie be authorized to make adjustments with t h e S t r e e t Employees f o r overtime during this emergency. (Very severe winter of 1949) The matter of appointing a committee to s t u d y the power problem in Cedar City a n d the feasibility of purchasing t h e Southern Utah Power Company, o r p a r t of i t , was discussed by t h e Council. Some eligible men for the committee members were considered. I t was s u g g e s t e d t h a t the following ten men be appointed: Cliff Ewing. Loren Whetten, George D. Grimshaw. Graham MacDonald. Max L u n t , D r . L. V. Broadbent, Morgan Rollo, J . S . Christensen, Carl Wasmuth, and Attorney Isom, a n d the entire City Council.
