B e r n a r d Leigh met with t h e Council, entering a complaint against Sterling Nelson for a nuisance maintained in his neighborhood ( h o r s e c o r r a l s ) . Mr. Leigh asked t h a t the City take immediate action in removing this annoyance. Unanimous s u p p o r t . Aug. 3. 1944.. .Clarence Miller r e p o r t e d on t h e case of a nuisance involving Sterling Nelson. Art Nelson. Chief of Police, had read the City Ordinance to S. T . Nelson a n d asked t h a t i t be complied with in erecting an enclosure of t h e t y p e d e s ~ g n a t e d . S . T . had complied. Annual City tax levy for 1944: General Fund--5 m i l l s , S t r e e t and Sidewalk--5 mills, Public Safety--5 m i l l s , Bond Sinking Fund--3.4 mills. Bond Interest--3 mills, Library--2 mills, P a r k s a n d Public Property--2 mills, Airport--3 mills. a n d City Halls and Memorials--4.6 mills. Total 33 mills. Councilman Miller reported t h a t t h e Junior Chamber of Commerce had given Cedar City several Fly T r a p s , which will be placed in t h e Indian Village. Mayor Lunt reported t h a t garbage is being dumped a t several places other than the City Dump. Sept. 7 , 1944.. . T r e a s u r e r . Rulon Knell, reported t h a t t h e r e a r e eleven unpaid bills on the Tap Water Account, due to shut-offs a n d over c h a r g e s , a n d asked t h a t some action be M r . Roberts made motion t h a t t h e accounts due be taken. written off t h e r e c o r d s (Total 580.39). Carried. Question of a raise in salary for t h e City Recorder was discussed a n d raised from 550 to $65 p e r month, with office h o u r s to be established from 1:30 to 5:00 p . m . Oct. 5 , 1944.. . C o r r y Gower met with t h e Council a n d reported t h a t , upon application for a building permit to make improvements on his home, he was informed t h a t according t o the new s u r v e y , his house is located in t h e 10th West S t r e e t road; a n d he r e q u e s t e d t h a t this matter be cleared u p , a s he h a s already s t a r t e d excavation for t h e basement. After discussion, Councilman Roberts recommended t h a t a jog a n d c u r v e be made in t h e proposed 10th West S t r e e t a t the point of M r . Gower's residence, therehy relieving him of t h e necessity of moving his house. Oct. 1 9 , 1944.. .Recommendation made t h a t the City purchase a time clock for the use of City employees was made b y Councilman Morris Roberts. Complaints from citizens a n d businesses on the garbage service were h e a r d ; they recommended t h a t t h e Garbage Department be required to give b e t t e r service.
