Jan. 6 . 1944 ...The Council had a discussion on whether o r not to continue broadcasting over K . S . U . B . . promoting the City and the s u r r o u n d i n g area. The decision was made to continue. [Herschel Urie had met with t h e Council about t h e City contract for radio broadcasting prior to t h i s , a n d he stated t h a t K . S . U . B . is not self-supporting, b u t hoped to be after the ' d u r a t i o n , ' o r e n d of the w a r . ] Councilman Wright suggested t h a t t r e e s be planted t o hide t h e unsightly corrals and b a r n s along t h e Creek hank a t the mouth of Cedar Canyon. Plans for a new library building discussed. Suggestion was made t h a t Councilman Miles contact the Legionnaire's Officials on a plan to purchase the Legion Grounds, based on the sale of t h e old Library. March 2 4 , 1944.. .Reed C a r d n e r , representing the Southern Utah Power Company, met with t h e Council. Proposed contract was r e a d . On motion of Councilman Miller an ordinance entitle "An Ordinance Granting to Southern Utah Power Company an Electric Light. Heat a n d Power Franchise." passed i t s f i r s t , second, a n d t h i r d reading. April 6 , 1944.. .Mayor H . H. May 4 , 1944.. .Mr. Lloyd Allen was appointed to act a s Fire Chief b y H. H. Lunt. Mayor. Miller reported that the May 20, 1944 ... Councilman dumpgrounds had never been cleared since cleanup d a y , a n d that M r . Hunter r e f u s e d to do i t . He [Miller) was authorized to have i t cleared, a n d , if a satisfactory deal could not be made with Hunter for the f u t u r e , he should hire someone else to do the job. June I . 1944.. .Chief of Police, A r t h u r Nelson, reported t h a t the different managers of hotels in Cedar City had complained about t h e curfew being blown a t l l : 0 0 p . m . , stating t h a t their guests have usually retired a t t h a t time a n d a r e awakened by the curfew. After discussion, the Council decided to continue to abide by t h e Curfew Ordinance. July 6 , 1944.. .Mr. Knell reported on receipts from dances held a t t h e Armory during the p a s t season, since t h e Cadets have left. Mr. Miles s t r e s s e d t h a t t h e City is in t h e business
