Oct. 1 , 1942.. . T h e fuel situation in Cedar City was discussed because of a shortage of miners and t r u c k e r s ( d u e to t h e w a r ) . The mines, adjacent to Cedar City, were threatening to close. Dec. 3, 1942.. . T h e new alley just opened, between Center S t r e e t a n d f i r s t North extending from First East to Second East on t h e south side of Henry W . Lunt's p r o p e r t y , was discussed a n d a name was considered. "Roosevelt" a n d "Wilkie" were s u g g e s t e d , goodbumoredly. Councilman Dalley made motion t h a t t h e Avenue be named McArthur in recognition of General Douglas MacArthur's outstanding generalship in t h e p r e s e n t war. Carried. Feb. 18, 1943.. . T h e Parowan Stake Presidency, D. L . S a r g e n t , A r t h u r Jones, a n d Oscar Hulet, met with t h e Council. President Sargent e x p r e s s e d concern for t h e young people of Cedar City incident to war conditions. They s u g g e s t e d t h a t a r i g i d , well-defined curfew law be inacted. Anyone u n d e r 18 y e a r s of age shall be in their homes a t 10 p.m. on each day of t h e week. They f u r t h e r suggested t h a t the doors of all business houses be closed not later than 10 p . m . . except hotels a n d r e s t a u r a n t s . Businesses t o be forbidden to sell o r s e r v e b e e r s a n d liquors a f t e r 10 p . m . , and t h a t the Police Force on night d u t y h e sufficiently increased to execute this law. March 4 , 1943.. .On motion of Councilman Dalley, an ordinance entitled, 'An Ordinance providing for a curfew a n d t h e regulation of mlnors in Cedar City, Utah,' was passed on i t s f i r s t reading a n d was ordered published in t h e Iron County Record. April 1 , 1943.. .At 10 p.m. t h e curfew signal sounded for t h e f i r s t time, in accordance with t h e new curfew ordinance. April 15, 1943.. .Councilman Dalley lamented t h e fact t h a t t h e table around which they were seated was not in keeping with o u r new building. Authorized to purchase a table. Mayor Lunt informed t h e Council t h a t t h e p r e s e n t condition of t h e Public Library [Carnagie) was unsatisfactory. Stated t h e possibility of being condemned a t any time. [Built in 1914) Mayor Lunt s t a t e d t h a t the May 7 . 1943.. .Special meeting. purpose of the meeting was t h e problem of b u s parking in front of t h e Leigh Hotel on Main S t r e e t . Mr. Collins a n d Mr. Rocco of the Bus Companies, p r e s e n t e d t h e problems of their lines in accommodating g r e a t e r civilian travel because of gas a n d tire rationing a n d , a t t h e same time, c a r r y i n g t h e numbers of soldiers being t r a n s p o r t e d a t this time. Action taken: Restrict sufficient space for four b u s s e s a t once.
