Oct. 20, 1938 ...Attorney Shay recommended t h a t Cedar City p r e p a r e a statement for publication setting forth i t s s t a n d on t h e removal of t h e County Seat from Parowan to Cedar City. Statement of City appeared in t h e Iron County Record October 26. 1938, stating in p a r t : During the p a s t several years the administrative officers of Cedar City have fully realized that it is rapidly becoming necessary t h a t administration offices, buildings for t h e storage of City equipment, a n d a new jail should be constructed. Plans were drawn up a n d submitted to t h e City Council a few months ago for a new Administration Building and Jail. However, at t h e time, some agitation for t h e removal of the County Seat began, so t h e administration, in t h e i n t e r e s t of t h e t a x p a y e r s , decided to defer action on s u c h plans pending the outcome of the election. If t h e election c a r r i e s , the administration expects to contribute to the cost of construction a n d to t h e use of any building which may be erected. The p r e s e n t City Administration believes i t would be necessary to construct i t s own building a n d jail if t h e election fails. I t is f u r t h e r believed t h a t a merger of cost of t h e two buildings by the erection of one building. under suitable agreement, could not help b u t result in a savings to the t a x p a y e r s . Therefore, t h e City Administration e x p r e s s e s itself, unqualifiedly, in favor of t h e removal of t h e County Seat. This expression is not made on t h e importation of a n y of t h e active committees of the County Seat removal movement, b u t is purely a voluntary expression of t h e feeling of the Administration. Total in favor of removal from Parowan to Cedar Citv--2471 votes. Needed two-thirds majorit? of votes which' would have been 2491. Votes c a s t against--1266. Total vote--3737. If seven of t h e no votes had been voted yes i n s t e a d , the County Seat would have heen moved. Nov. 17, 1938.. .Walter Merryweather and Sherwin Bradshaw, representing t h e Junior Chamber, explained their plans f o r decorating Main Street during the Christmas Holidays. To have 'Merry Christmas' sign near Corner Market, a n d decorations which could be p u t up a n d taken down each y e a r . The City Council fixed minimum hourly wage r a t e s for respective t r a d e s o r occupations in accordance with r a t e s prevailing.. .hourly r a t e s for W . P . A . projects on Unit 1205-F.
