committee (of two). Lehi W . Jones a n d John S . Woodbury, was appointed t o d r a f t a proposal to t h e Legislature of just what Cedar City would give if t h e school was located h e r e . John S . Woodbury was elected t o two terms in t h e State Legislature a s Representative from Iron County (1928-301. He worked t o bring t h e Union Pacific Railroad t o Cedar City a n d f o r the building of t h e El Escalante Hotel. He championed t h e f i r s t power plant in Iron County: a n d , following t h e closing of t h e b a n k s in t h e depression of t h e 30's. h e helped to reorganize a n d reopen t h e Bank of Southern Utah. He s e r v e d a s Director a n d later a s President of t h e Cedar Sheep Association. He was Manager a n d Board Member of t h e Iron County Telephone Company. He s e r v e d a s County Superintendent of Schools, a n d for many y e a r s was Clerk of t h e Board. His life was closely associated with t h e advancement of irrigation a n d h e p r e p a r e d a n d filed one of t h e f i r s t applications for t h e high water of Cedar Valley. At t h e time of his death. December 1 6 , 1949. a t 84 y e a r s of age, John S . Woodbury was a member of the Chamber of Commerce a n d Rotary Club, was Director of the Southern Utah Power Company, President of the Coal Creek Irrigation Company, a n d was serving on a special 'State Chamber of Commerce' Committee studying the water development of t h e Lower Colorado River Basin.
