In July of 1888, Henry Lunt, who was living in Arizona at that time, wrote a letter to Lehi as fnllo\va: ".\rizona, July 2ndJ88 My Dear Bro. Lehi, Yours of the 7th left, mnic safely to hand some time ago and am always pleased to hear from you and continually pray that you may be preserved in good health and from mob violence. This mission will give you valual~leexperience and hetter prepare you for others, and will cause you to more fully appreciate the value of the Gospel and the associations of the Saints and your Sweet h1ount:lin home, than you otherwise possibly could; it is one of the hest things in the world for our young men to go on a mission to preach the Gospel abroad in the nations for they realize many things that they cannot at home. Indeed, it is neresaary for us all to have a rertain amount ol experience. Even in my rase, I feel that it will all ijc for niy good and that of my family; we need not expect to have all sweet and no bitter in this life which is hut short of the longest." ''You would he surprised and sorry too, to hear of the death of -4postle E. Snow and others of our old friends in Cedar City that have passed away in the short time since you have been away. It is time for our young men to bcgin to think what they are ahout, for who else can we look to but our sons to help bare off this Kingdom, but the Sons of the old veterans of this church. The late dedication of the hlanti T e n ~ p l is another e grand occasion and victory for the Lattrr-day Saints and it fills every faithful memher of the church with joy 2nd gladness and makes us feel to shout Glory Hallelujah to God and the Lamb." "hunt Ellen writes me that Henrietta had got another fine daughter and that is another qrand occasion - what say you, you see. l~usiness goes on all right and prosperous if you are from home. O u r Ffillie writes me enclosed in Aimt Ellen's that Thomas Taylor told him that he had as good as sold the Iron and Coal Mines and was going to build a hig store on his lot in Cedar, I think he would manifest a deal more good sense if he would put u p a woolen factory. Thank God we are all pretty well in health although I am somewhat afflicted with rheumatism in my right hip, the weather is very warn1 and dry. We are ctill living here in the timber in :In old log cabin and the prospect to make a home here is not very flattering rhough I would sooner try it here without any water, as is the rase, only wtll water, than in South Carolina. Sarah joins me in kindest love to you. IYrite again. I pxpect to go tomorrow to Snowflake and try and enjoy myself with an old friend Jessie T. Smith in the celchration of the famous fourth of July." (Remainder of letter lost)13 Going on a mission wns no easy matter, because the Mormons were h;n.inr: a difficult time in the entire territory. 4 n example of this was written in the chorc.h chronology and histnry Dec. 1887: "Because of
