We were very happy to get there, and the folks were glad to see us. We spent a very pleasant week visiting with friends and relatives." On New Year's Eve the town was raided by outlaws who came into that moved. This was their way of having a town shooting everythin~ good time and stirring up the people." Lehi continues: "While therr. I reccivcd a letter from the Church Officials asking me if I would be ready to fill a miscion to the Southern States -- to start from Salt Lake City Fcb. the 3rd, 1888. Just one month and three days to get home, f x u p i my affairs, and be ready to go. The way I would have to travel to get home would he about threc hundred and fifty miles, and I would have to ride the same horses that I had ridden in taking the cattle out there." The letters received by Lehi at that time read as follows: "To all Persons to whom this letter shall come: This certifies that the hearer, Elder Lehi W. Jones is in full faith and fellowship with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and by the General Authorities of said Church has been duly appointed to a mission to the Southern States to preach the Gospel and administer in all the Ordinances thereof pertaining to his office; And we invite all men to give heed to his teachings and counsels as a Inan of God, sent to open to them the door of Life and Salvation - and assist him in his travels, in whatsoever things he may need. And we pray God, the Eternal Father, to bless Elder Jones and all who receive him. and minister to his comfort, with the blessings of Heaven and Earth, for time and for all eternity, in the name of JESUS CHRIST.
