Thomas was called to work as a counselor in the bishopric of the Cedar Ward July 31, 1859. H e was ordained by .+pestle George A. Smith along with Henry Lunt, who was made Bishop, and Richard V. Smith, who was the other counselor. Thomas served in this capacity for over three years. Shortly after accepting this new position, Thomas and his wife, Sage, were blessed with another son whom they named William Treharne Jones. H e was born on the 12th of Sept., 1859. Having four boys, they probahly douhted that they would ever have a girl, hut they were happy and rejoiced that their children were healthy and thev felt extremely hlessed that they had plenty of food and a place to live and were with the L.D.S. people in the church they so dearly loved. While working in the Bishopric with Brother Henry Lunt, the Jones family and the Lunt family hecame well acquainted. Lehi W. was five years old then and the Lunts had one child, Henrietta, who was still a bahy a year old. There were times when Thomas sorely missed his famil!- in Wales liut he knew that he had done the right thing in joining the rhurch and leaving his native land, never to return. H e must have written to his family not long after this time, for he received a letter from Herwain, Wales, dated Lfarch 13, 1860 written by his older sister, hIary, and her husband, which read as follows: "Dear Children, Here we are taking
