That night &er the cattle were loaded, the cow hands had a miserable night's rest after they gathered up al1 they had with them and climbed into a box car half loaded with coai. Martinez left for home &er they reached the railroad. Heaton said, "There was not a night when we were &er those cattle but what we aii knelt around the fire and asked the Lord to help us get those cattle out. The Lord answered our prayers and carne to our rescue with that fogn4 Owen wrote a letter to Broughton fiom El Paso on September 28, 1912, as follows: Dear Brother: Mother just received a letter from you which we read with much interest. We were glad to hear from you and to leam that you were well and prospenng so nicely in your missionary labors, as we ever pray and hope you will do. 1 didn't hear you make mention of my letter, and 1 was wondering ifit had missed [being] carried. 1 feel ashamed to think that 1 haven't written more than 1 have but, when 1 was home, there was so much of the time that there was no mail system that 1 got out ofthe habit of writing, but 1 will try and write more regularly now. Conditions seem to be growing steadily worse down in Mexico. Oscar has come back out with his family. He says that it looks as though Rebels wiii drive the Federais out of Pearson any day. The Rebels are continually buming the bndges on the Southwestern [railroad]. Ed and Heaton are in Mexico now after cattle. 1 don't know whether they wiU succeed in gening any out or not. Ed is in Dublan with about sixty head, which they were expecting to load yesterday, the 27, and Heaton is in the mountains after more. It appears as though it will be useless to try and save any crops in the mountains, but they are gathering considerable in the valleys and shipping it. Alden
