              28				SOUTHERN BRANCH OF THE 
 
    ZOOLOGY.-This is a thoroughly practical course for teachers, and little attention is given to those subjects which the teacher can not use in common school work. 
Required of second-year Normal students. 
3 hours per week, first half year. 
 
   BOTANY.-The design of this course is to offer teachers the instruction necessary to enable them to make practical use of botany in their daily school work. 
Required of second-year Normal students.  
3 hours per week, second half year. 
 
    GEOLOGY.-This is a thorough presentation of such portions of the subject as are needful for teachers in the grade schools. The course is attended by much practical work with minerals and in observation tours.  
    Required of third-year Normal students.  
    2 hours per week throughout the year. 
 
    PHYSICS.-A thorough academic course, illustrated by practical experiment. 
    Required of third-year Normal students.  
    4 hours per week throughout the year. 
 
UNITED STATES HISTORY AND CIVICS.--This is a thorough high-school 
course in the history and government of our country.  
Required of all first-year Normal students.  
3 hours per week throughout the year. 
 
GENERAL HISTORY.-Based on Sheldon's text-book and references to 
leading authorities and historial sources.  
Required of third year Normal students.  
3 hours per week throughout the year. 
     
    HISTORY OF EDUCATION.-This course deals with the development of educational theory and practice, from the beginning of modern times to the present.

   EDUCAnONAT. PSYCIIOLOUY.-A discussion of mind phenomena in general with constant application of the laws of mind to moral and intellectual development. 
    
   DRAWING-(A)-The aim of this course is to teach the elementary principles of drawing and coloring with view to preparing students for the expression work which may be required of them in various other branches of study.
