26 SOUTHERN BRANCH
MUSIC.
MR. TOLLESTRUP.
Vocal Music. Instruction in the vocal music class will consist in reading the Scale, Sight-Reading to enable the student to read at sight any of the simpler musical compositions, writing from sound, Choral work, Choir singing and Church music.
Two hours per week.
Musical Theory, Harmony, and Composition. This course will consist of practical application of the principles of harmony as applied in actual composition; theory of music, musical form and expression; practice in composition, criticism of original work, vocal and instrumental.
Choral Society. This organization consists of the chorus with orchestra accompaniment. Two rehearsals per week will be given. One hour credit toward completing the Branch Normal School course will be given to those who do this work.
Piano. Students have opportunity to acquire first-class instruction on the piano, and at a slight additional expense to the student the use of a piano at the school may be had for practice.
Mandolin and Guitar. A Mandolin and Guitar club will be organized and instruction to a limited number of students will be given on these instruments; but students are advised to take a better class of instrument.
Orchestra. Three practices a week.
Young people get acquainted with the best class of orchestral music, and get a training which would cost them a great deal of money at other institutions.
A deposit of five dollars must be paid to become a member of the orchestra.
Band. Two practices per week.
Young men who have ambition to become band leaders may develop themselves in that art in this organization. A deposit of five dollars must be made on entering the organization.
