11 STATE NORMAL SCHOOL.
CHAPEL EXERCISES.
Chapel exercises are held every day, the purpose being to bring students and teachers more closely together, and to instruct along lines of morality. One chapel period each week is given over to the students to carry out programs appropriate for such occasions.
At this period students in Literature and Science have opportunity to demonstrate that they have power in public speaking and debate.
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS.
All students are invited to become members of the "Students' Society." This organization aims at the promotion of the literary and general culture and results from practice in public speaking and parliamentary procedure.
In addition to this general society, the students of the Normal have a "Debating Club," and a "Literary and Domestic Art Society." The former is conducted exclusively by men, and the latter by women.
The Athletic Association is active not only in promoting games and out of door sports, but it is also taking an interest in other phases of physical education.
CITY GOVERNMEMT.
The student body of the Branch Normal is self-governing. An organization known as the "Branch Normal School City" has been effected, its functions being similar to those of cities of the first class. Through. this government the students make their own laws and enforce them. By thus affording a very practical training in civics, the system does much in preparing students for the greater duties imposed by citizenship.
The city government has been in operation since it was organized in 1898. It has proved satisfactory beyond the expectations of its founders. The student body has shown itself worthy of the trust reposed in it by the instructors. And the students themselves are
