At this period students in Literature and Science have opportunity to demonstrate that they have power in public speaking and debate.
All students are invited to become members of the "Students' Society." This organization aims at the promotion of the literary and general culture that results from practice in public speaking and parliamentary procedure.
In addition to this general society the students of the Normal have a "Debating Club," and a "Literary and Domestic Art Society." The former is conducted exclusively by men and the latter by women.
The Athletic Association is active not only in promoting games and out of door sports, but it is also taking an interest in other phases of physical education.
The student body of the Branch Normal is self-governing. An organization known as the "Branch Normal School City" has been effected, its functions being similar to those of cities of the first class. Through this government the students make their own laws and enforce them. By thus affording a very practical training in civics, the system does much in preparing the students for the greater duties imposed by citizenship.
The city government has been in operation for over five years. It has proved satisfactory beyond the expectations of its founders. The student body has shown itself worthy of the trust reposed in it by the instructors. And the students themselves are pleased with the condition to such an extent that wherever they go they take steps to procure like privileges.
Copies of the City Charter, and plan of government have been requested by the management of several educational institutions and many teachers.
To further the musical interests of the school, an organization known as the "Orphean Club" has been effected. This
