10 SOUTHERN BRANCH
PHYSICAL EDUCATION.
Recognizing the importance of the care and culture of the human body, the school has made provision for giving the students a chance to do physical culture work. Gymnasium apparatus of modern type has been furnished; and through the efforts of the Athletic Association, outdoor sports, basket-ball, base-ball, tennis, and croquet have been provided for.
The aim of this department is to keep in good form the bodies of the students already healthy and strong, and to correct any defeats in the bodies of students having injurious habits or tendencies. To accomplish these results, proper gymnasium exercises and out-door games under the direction of a well qualified instructor are given.
MANUAL TRAINING SHOPS.
A separate building has been erected for the work in Manual Training. Modern benches, lathes, scroll saws, forges, and tools of all kinds for work in wood and some metals are provided.
DOMESTIC SCIENCE.
This department is provided with a model kitchen, a dining room, a sewing room with the necessary machines, etc., required for thorough and practical work.
There is also in this department, a sample room where food constituents are exhibited at the various stages of manufacture. The percentage, composition and various combinations of food materials are also shown.
CHAPEL EXERCISES.
Chapel exercises are held every day, the purpose being to bring students and teachers more closely together, and to instruct along lines of morality. One chapel period each week is given over to the students to carry out programs appropriate for such occasions.
