The student body of the Branch Normal is self-governing. An organization known as the "Branch Normal School City" has been effected, its functions being similar to those of cities of the first class. Through this government the students make their own laws and enforce them. By thus affording a very practical training in civics, the system does much in preparing the students for the\greater duties imposed by citizenship.
To further the musical interests of the school, an organization known as the "Orphean Club" has been effected. This society comprises "The Choral," (an organization devoted to chorus singing) the gentlemen's quartet club, the ladies' chorus, the mandolin and guitar club, the orchestra, and the Branch Normal band.
Students who wish to study music in addition to that offered in the regular course and that given in the singing clubs, can secure the services of a competent instructor in instrumental music and vocal training.
