DOMESTIC SCIENCE AND ARTS.
Hand Sewing. This work consists of making all varieties of stitches used in plain sewing and embroidery. The student makes a set of models comprising the various stitches, basting, running, back-stitching, hemming, overcasting, felling, gathering, buttonholes, loops and eyelets; also darning, embroidery matching, glove mending, and making seams, fastening, plackets, gussets, etc.
This course also includes lectures on the use of each model and upon the processes of manufacture of the fabric used.
Fancy Work. This work consists of plain and double hemstitching, drawn work, Kensington and Mountmellick embroidery.
Two hours per week during the first half-year.
Drafting and Garment flaking This work consists of drafting, designing, cutting and making muslin underwear, an unlined skirt-waist and an unlined cotton dress.
Two hours per week during the second half-year.
Household Economics. The work in Household Economics treats of the site and construction of the house,. its plumbing, heating, lighting, ventilation, cleaning and furnishing. Instruction and practice are also given in marketing, care of supplies, laundering, home nursing and general home management.
