17 STATE NORMAL SCHOOL.
READING A.-The object of this course is to give a practical and scientific basis for reading. Practice and theory of reading; voice building, phonetic spelling, pronunciation and emphasis will be given.
Required of first year Normal students.
GENERAL HISTORY.-Sheldon's General History will be used as a text book with "source method," supplemented by lectures and class discussion.
Required of third-year Normal students.
3 hours per week throughout the year.
GEOLOGY.-This is a thorough presentation of such portions of the subject as are needful for teachers in the grade schools. The course is attended by much practical work with minerals and in observation tours.

2 hours per week throughout the year.
PHYSICS.-A thorough academic course, illustrated by practical experiment.
Required of third-year Normal students.
4 hours per week throughout the year.
VOCAL MUSIC: ELEMENTARY.-This course includes instruction in reading vocal music, methods of teaching vocal music, elementary principles of voice culture, harmony, part singing, etc.
Required of all first-year Normal students.
2 recitations per week.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION.-Exercises in the gymnasium under the supervision of the director. Physical examinations are given as far as practicable, and the work will be adapted to the needs of the individual.
The regulation suits are recommended. These are, for men, "sweater" and soft soled shoes; for women, divided skirts, loose waist, and soft soled shoes.
CREDIT.
Students going from the Branch Normal to the University at Salt Lake City to finish their course will receive credit for all the subjects they have already completed.
