20 SOUTHERN BRANCH
a few carefully selected groups of facts taking the place of the more vague and general consideration of the great mass of history.
3 hours per week throughout the year.
History of Education.-Lectures, discussions, and topical studies on the historical development of educational theory and practice.
2 hours per week, first half-year.
Educational Psychology.-This course comprises a discussion of (1) mind phenomena in general, (2) 'energy as related to consciousness, (3) sensation and the nervous system, (4) association, presentation, and representation, (5) instinct and habit, and (6) feeling, emotion, and will. Constant application of the laws of mind is made to moral and intellectual development.
2 hours per week throughout the year.
Physiological Psychology.-Elementary course. Review of the psychology of the senses, and an empirical study of sensation and perception. Special attention will be given to the application of principles in school hygiene and in methods of teaching.
2 hours per week, first half-year.
PHYSICAL SCIENCE.

Elementary Physics.-Recitations and laboratory work. The recitations are accompanied by numerous lecture-table experiments which fully illustrate the subject-matter of the lessons. Three hours per week are devoted by each student to laboratory work which is. quantitative in character.
4 hours per week throughout the year.
General Chemistry.-An elementary course in General Chemistry and Qualitative Analysis. Experimental lectures and recitations three hours per week, with laboratory practice three hours per week throughout the year.
