NOTE. -Educational Psychology and History of Education of the fourth year may be given in the place of Mineralogy of the third year, and Chemistry of the second year. 
 
 
SUBJECTS OF INSTRUCTION. 
 
Algebra. -This course affords a thorough and complete treatment of elementary algebra. 
Wells's The Essentials of Algebra, is the text book used.  
.5 hours per week throughout the year. 
 
Elementary Geometry.-This is a practical elementary course in Plane and Solid Geometry. Much attention is given to measuring inaccessible distances, and computing lengths, areas, and volumes. Rigorous proof, based upon definitions, axioms, and propositions that have been proved, is required of all propositions. 
2 hours per week throughout the year. 
 
Geometry.-Plane and Solid Geometry. Wentworth's Plane and Solid Geometry. 
5 hours per week throughout the year. 
 
English. 
(a) This course consists of a thorough study of the more advanced principles of English grammar. It also includes the elementary instructions in literature with abundant practice in simple composition. 
4 hours per week throughout the year. 
(b) This course consists of instruction in the elementary principles of rhetoric together with much practice in composition. The simpler pieces of literature prescribed for entrance to the Freshman class of the University are also studied. 
3 hours per week throughout the year. 
(c) The work of this course is essentially the same as that of course b, but it is of much higher grade. Among the pieces studied
