              15				STATE NORMAL SCHOOL. 
 
    (b) This course consists of instruction in the elementary principles of rhetoric together with much practice in composition. The simpler pieces of literature prescribed for entrance to the Freshman class are also studied. 
Required of all second-year Normal students.  
3 hours per week throughout the year. 
   (c) The work of this course is essentially the same as that of course (b) but it is of much higher grade. Among the pieces studied, are the more difficult ones prescribed for entrance to the Freshman class. 
Required of all third-year Normal students.  
2 hours per week throughout the year. 
   UNITED STATES HISTORY AND CIVICS.-A review course including elementary instruction in Civics. 
Required of all first-year Normal students. 2 hours per week throughout the year. 
   NORMAL DRAWING.-The aim of this course is to prepare students to illustrate all subjects studied, and to acquire thereby a knowledge of the elementary principles of art.. To this end chalk-modeling,. freehand drawing from objects, models, and casts; water-coloring of design and objects, and outdoor sketching are employed. The expense of material need not exceed $1.50 for one year. 
Required of first, second and third year Normal students. 
   (a) 2 recitations per week during first year. 
   (b) 2 recitations per week during second year. 
   (c) 2 recitations per week during third year.-Miss Spencer. 
   BOOKKEEPING AND PENMANSHIP.-In this course the aim will be to give a thorough understanding of the principles of double entry bookkeeping, together with much practice in writing business forms. 
   Required of all students of the first year of the Normal course. 
   1 hour per week throughout the year.-Mr. Driggs. 
 
   PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY.-This course treats generally of the physical features of the earth, of agencies and conditions of the ocean and atmosphere affecting these, and of the physical relations to the earth of plant, animal, and human life. 
Required in the second year of the Normal course.
