Solid Geometry. Wentworth's Solid Geometry.
Two hours per week throughout the year.
Trigonometry I. Formulas for Trigonometric functions with graphic illustration, Cartesian ordinates and abscissa solution of right triangle with and without logarithmic tables, Goniometry and solution of oblique triangle, study of rhumb line and middle latitude navigation.
Trigonometry II. Spherical Trigonomety, Napier's Analogies, Gauss's Equations, solution of right and oblique spherical triangles, application to astronomical calculations, and if possible some field work with surveyor's compass will be required.
Three recitations a week during the year will enable a student to complete both courses.
English a. This course consists of a thoro study of English grammar. Special attention is paid to the structure of the sentence. Short themes are required weekly. Some of the simpler classics are studied such as Scott's Ivanhoe, and Lady of the Lake, Tennyson's Idylls of the King; Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.
Five hours per week thruout the year.
English b. This course consists of a review of the more difficult parts of technical grammar, and a study of the principles of rhetoric. Regular practice in composition is required. Hill's Beginnings of Rhetoric and Composition is the text. The simpler pieces of literature prescribed for entrance to freshman classes are also studied.
