12 SOUTHERN BRANCH
PHYSICAL EDUCATION.
Recognizing the importances of the care and culture of the human body, the school has made provision for training in physical culture work for all students.
The aim of this department is to keep in good form the bodies of the students already healthy and strong, and to correct any defects in the bodies of students having injurious habits or tendencies. To accomplish these results, proper gymnasum exercises and out-of-door games under the direction of a well-qualified instructor are given.
When school opens in September, 1908, the school will be provided with an excellent gymnasium, well equipped with modern apparatus, shower baths, and lockers. In connection with the gymnasium work, out-of-door sports, basket ball, base ball, tennis, track and field work will be given as an encouragement to students to take part in contests with other schools. It is especially desired that this school be represented in the State High School meets.
MANUAL TRAINING SHOPS.
A separate building has been erected for the work in Manual Training. Modern benches, lathes, scroll-saws, forges, and tools of all kinds for work in wood and metals are provided.
DOMESTIC SCIENCE.
This department includs a model kitchen, store rooms, sample room where food constituents are exhibited at the various stages of manufacture, dining room, sewing room, and fitting room, all completely furnished and equipped for recitation, demonstration and thoro practical work. All utensils and materials for laboratory work are furnished by the department and for the use of these, students are charged a small fee.
