29 STATE NORMAL SCHOOL.
English.-(a) This course consists of a thorough study of the more advanced principles of English Grammar. It also includes elementary instruction in literature with abundant practice in simple composition.
Required of all first-year normal students.
4 hours per week throughout the year.
(b) This course consists of instruction in the elementary principles of rhetoric together with much practice in composition. Many simple pieces of literature are also studied.
Required of all second-year normal students.
3 hours per week throughout the year.
(c) The work of this course is essentially the same as that of course (b) but is of much higher grade. Among the pieces studied are the more difficult ones prescribed for entrance to the Freshman .class.
Required of all third-year Normal students.
2 hours per week throughout the year.
Physical Geography.-This course treats generally of the physical features of the earth, of agencies and conditions of the ocean affecting these, and of the physical relations to the earth of plant, animal, and human life.
Required of second-year Normal students.
2 hours per week throughout the year.
Physiology A:-Lectures and recitations. Anatomy receives due attention, and the student is aided by articulated and unarticulated skeletons, and other anatomical preparations, as well as by charts, manikins, and the dissection of animals.

2 hours per week throughout the year.
Physiology B: The Nervous System.-Lectures and recitations on the anatomy, physiology and hygiene of the nervous system and the special senses. This course must precede the study of psychology.
Required of third-year Normal students.
1 hour per week throughout the year.
Zoology.-This is a thoroughly practical course for teachers, and little attention is given to those subjects which the teacher can not use in common school work.
Required of second-year Normal students.
3 hours per week, first half year.
Botany.-The design of this course is to offer teachers the instruction necessary to enable them to make practical use of botany in their daily school work.
Required of second-3 ear Normal students.
