States Embassy and was used as interpreter by President Eisenhower and other VIP's visiting Japan. When John and Orpha arrived at their Tokyo hotel on Christmas Eve, they turned on the television in their room. They were anxious to see the broadcast of the Apollo VIII astronauts Frank Borman, William Anders and James Love11 in lunar orbit. Much to their surprise, there was their old friend Sen Nishiyama, translating the whole program for Japanese television. What a thrill to listen to him translate as the astronauts described the Earth as "a grand oasis in the vastness of space" and as they read the first ten verses of Genesis regarding the creation of the earth! Orpha and John spent two days seeing Tokyo with Sen and his lovely and talented wife. Currently Sen holds a high position with Sony Corporation. Recently he was interviewed on TV in Japan (appearingon Channel 5 in Salt Lake City) discussing trade relations between Japan and the United States. While in Tokyo John and Orpha also visited with Dora Iwasaki's brother, a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, who was spending a year or so in Japan with relatives. John and Orpha boarded the famous bullet train to go into the country to see the aunt and uncle (a retired doctor) of Lucy Asahina, Gunji's wife. This lovely couple couldn't have been more gracious and it was an unforgettable day. Then Orpha and John joined Paul in Manila and the three of them flew to some of the southern islands of the Philippines to visit some of the people with whom Paul had worked. Then they continued to Hong Kong, over the war in Vietnam to Thailand, to Karachi, Pakistan, to Beirut, Lebanon, to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, to Cairo, Egypt to Greece, and back home, after circling the globe, to the United States. They were greeted in Denver by Carmen and John and by the rest of the family at the Salt Lake Airport. In 1971, John and Orpha went to Europe with the Harold Browns and John O'Donnals, for "pure pleasure." They were able to visit England, France, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Monaco, Spain, and Portugal. Orpha commented: "John and Harold had been friends for many years, and when Leanor and I met it was a good foursome who enjoyed the same brand of down-home humor. The Browns had spent most of their adult life in
