school. The other 5 of us went to the Metropolitan Art Gallery where we barely skimmed the surface in 3 hours. Many wonderful objects, so many, in fact, that it was hard to absorb them: Whistler's Mother, the Thinker, Renoir, Rembrandt, all perfectly beautiful! We then went back to the hotel to rest. Paul says there isn't enough to do. We're just spectators. We met Art Nelson and Dick Paul, and took them to dinner and 'Lil Abner.' We all thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a nice visit with the boys - it was Art's first Broadway show. We walked home and had a coconut drink en route. We had a good talk with Art, who seems wholesouled about his mission. These are fine lads anxious to do a good job." Thursday, July 18th: 'We tried to get an earlier start today went to the Frick home to see the art collection. Sister Lee said it was a jewel - she's right! We drove down to Pier 32 to see the missionaries off, went aboard the Argentina, made the rounds including their cabin on C deck, took pictures, and had a nice visit with them. The and we waved them out of sight, got back in the car boat left at 5:00, and started for Connecticut. We left New York City on the FDR Highway, then somehow missed our route and crossed the beautiful Hudson River Bridge. We soon discovered our mistake and got back on the route to New Haven. We spent the night in an expensive motel somewhere in Connecticut. Paul is getting homesick. When pinned down he says he misses good water, and at dinner tonight he wanted some beef, 'something to remind him of Sunday dinner in Utah.'" Friday July 19th: "We visited the Yale campus. John and Steve went into a few buildings, but ours was a cursory examination. We saw the Peabody Museum of Natural History - rather austere with its dinosaurs. We got onto the turnpike, stopped at Sturbridge, Massachusets, a restored New England village. We ate at the 'Village Barn' and stayed at a lovely old private home for $14. The dinner cost $20. Paul said family prayer and we were all in bed by midnight." Saturday, July 20th: "Sturbridge was a manrelous experience. They have done an excellent job of restoring everything to the period. Just as we were leaving, we met the village preacher, a Harvard man. We enjoyed the ride on the turnpike to Boston (Cambridge) where we had the usual hard time bedding down. John called Junius
