CHAPTER ONE
A happy family is but an earlier heaven.

OHN STERLING BOYDEN WAS BORN APRIL 14, 1906, only 46 years after his great-grandparents Charles and Sarah Corns (Korns) Boyden arrived in Salt Lake City from Staffordshire, England, and 40 years after his grandparents John and Jessie Sophia Mitchell Boyden arrived in Coalville, Utah. John was born in the family home which his grandfather John built, as was his own father, Walter Mitchell Boyden. John was born one year following the death of his grandfather, John Boyden. He often said his name had already been chosen when he was born, that the "Sterling" was added because it was a good English name. Besides, Grandpa John had said many times how he loved to write the initials of his wife (JSB for Jessie Sophia Boyden) because they were so beautfiul together. He was a graduate of Wrigley's Academy in England and the family has framed examples of his outstanding penmanship which was done at that school. John's great-grandparents, on both sides, were born in the British Isles. His father, Walter Mitchell Boyden, was born in Coalville and his mother, AM Thomas Boyden, was born in Dolston or Dollstown (near Akron), Ohio, of Welsh parentage. In various ways John showed his loyalty to both lines of ancestry throughout his life.
