Three Score and Ten in Retrospect
when we think of John and think of one word to describe him we think of integrity. Then we think well yes, but honorable, and then we'd think about his middle name Sterling and then we'd think about kindly, then we'd think about gracious, and we'd think about all of the great Christian virtues which John had. John, in my opinion, was a great bishop, just like his son John, and this morning Paul mentioned there was a time when all three of the boys were serving in bishoprics, which speaks something of their heritage and their faith and their instruction. Orpha fills the words in the scriptures, "Be ye therefore not unequally yoked together," and as John was great, Orpha was and is great in her right. I salute this couple as one of God's choice servants and his wife, both of them having served on general boards of the Church with long years and great distinction. And we honor this fine family, these splendid sons. You know that your Dad was so proud of you. John, who is both a lawyer and a doctor, and Steve and Paul who followed in their father's footsteps. Of course Carmen had a special place in his heart; it was wonderful to see the children grow up, mature and become great. And this morning I recall that when 1 last visited with John one of Steve's children came over, and I asked Orpha today which one it was, and she said, "How can I remember7 We have been blessed with so many." We come now, of course, to the time when John should be laid away. I'm sure there has been a great reunion with John's parents and with Gill and Sister Sweeten. Thank God for the life of John S. Boyden. Thank God for his memory. I leave you the testimony which I have which over-arches and undergirds every other belief that I have, and that is that God lives, Jesus is the Christ, that the resurrection is part of His plan, and I am satisfied that one day, if we are worthy, we shall have the blessed privilege of meeting John again face to face. And it will be wonderful to see him, towering over us, and to see his smile and shake hands and feel of his wonderful spirit. I should like to leave my blessing upon you, Orpha, and upon your children, in the words of the Lord as contained in the Doctrine and Covenants: "And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left,
