Description	262 Three Score and Ten in Retrospect Steve would take them up as Dad began to ease up in his work. At a time when he was having these feelings he was on his way to visit a client. He was driving through a canyon and was stopped at a construction zone for some time. He got out of the car and stood near the aspens that were in the canyon and he put together this verse which described his feelings in the later years of his practice. The aspens quaked as they stood knee deep In waves of living green. Occasional daisies nodded their assent To the pleasant summer scene. I think I felt the the draw of years As a warming summer sun Bade me relax and dote Upon the victories I had won. But there is something about a breeze Giving motion to the view, That plagues your inner calm With ambition born anew. What is this thing within me That words do not make known, Yet calls the trick before the play, And I claim it as my own? Do you think a loving father With envisage of you - a man Could have charged a spark so vital To supply this late "I can"? Or did the fondest hopes of mother, Expressed in tender care, Direct the actions of this day So long from way back there? The puffs of white across the blue At now a hurried pace Spur me on to finish The last lap of the race. On your feet my graying friend,
