Eventually, the malignancy spread to the point that John was completely incapacitated. Carmen's journal contains entries that include reminiscenses of the last months: It's difficult to watch a big, strong, dynamic and active father slowly lose the ability to walk anything but a short distance and to even be unable to sit more than a few minutes in one position.
