leadership will be sorely missed. Each and every member of the Board feels a keen personal loss not only because of your guidance in important corporate and legal matters with respect to the Company but also because of their warm association and friendship with you over the last twenty years.
I, as well as all of the members of the Board of Directors, individually express our most sincere and earnest wish for your speedy recovery and look forward to the time when you will enjoy good health and regular association with your friends and loved ones. The malignancy from the tumor had caused deterioration of John's back, and he was forced to wear a back brace which severely limited his activities. John's health did improve and he was able to resume some personal and professional interests for a time. Then difficulties with his heart found him in the LDS Hospital intensive care unit for a few days. After recovering from this incident, he felt well enough to take a trip to England with Orpha, John Jr. and Marge. Within a few days of his return, John was back in the hospital - this time with gall bladder surgery. Numerous friends called, wrote, and in other ways expressed their love and appeciation for John during his severe illness. One such friend was Ernest Wilkinson Sr. As expressed by John: "Our close association commenced a long time ago when I was still in the United States Attorney's Office. After that time we both felt Lee to discuss matters of common interest in addition to the association we had in legal matters." Ernest died of a heart ailment in the spring of 1978. On this occasion John wrote to Glen Wilkinson and Robert Barker of the law firm in Washington, D.C.: As you know, I lost a very dear friend when Ernest left us. When I was dangerously ill a little over a year ago, Ernest called me on several occasions to inquire as to my health.. .Since the many very adequate and, sincere expressions concerning Ernest as a man and his accomplishments in life, any attempt on my
