Three Score and Ten in Retrospect
went to the barber shop for a haircut. Walking home from the barber shop, he slipped on the ice by Uintah School and broke his a m . He was admitted to the University Hospital for treatment. While he was there, his previously scheduled prostate surgery took place. This was when his cancer was first discovered. His recuperation from surgery was such that he felt it necessary to resign as an official of Ideal National. On April 12,1977, he wrote to the Board of Directors: As you all know, it has been over three months since 1 was physically able to participate in your deliberations. It is now evident that it is in the best interests of the company and my own personal welfare that I now tender my resignation as a member and Chairman of the Board of Directors. My association with you has undoubtedly been one of the finer experiences of my life. It is with regret that I must now yield to the ptacticalities of the situation. I wish you every success in your continuing efforts to protect the interests of the policy holders, shareholders and employees of Ideal National. A response came the following day from Duain 1. Pearson, President of Ideal National: It is with sadness that I advise you that your letter of resignation dated April 12, 1977, was understandably accepted by the Board of Directors with deep personal regret. Your requ6sted resignation was unanimously approved April 12, 1977, on motion of Dr. Ernest L. Wilkinson and seconded by Dr. ElRoy Nelson. The motion directed that I convey to you the sincere and grateful appreciation of the entire Board of Directors for your many years of dedicated and devoted service as a director and Chairman of the Board.
It is a compliment to your ability and integrity that you have held the position of Chairman of the Board since the beginning of the Company to the present time. Your wise and discerning
